01 / Direct answerA LiFePO4 battery stores electrical energy using lithium iron phosphate cells.
LiFePO4 is the common abbreviation for lithium iron phosphate. In a solar energy storage system, individual cells are assembled into a battery with a battery management system, enclosure, power terminals and, depending on the model, a display and communication interfaces.
The battery stores DC energy from solar panels, the grid or a generator through a compatible inverter or charger. It later supplies that energy to the inverter when the connected loads need power. The battery is one part of the system: usable runtime also depends on the inverter, load profile, operating limits, wiring, protection and control settings.
Chemistry
LiFePO4 identifies the lithium iron phosphate cell chemistry; it does not by itself define the battery voltage, capacity, current limit or communication protocol.
Complete battery
A sellable energy-storage battery combines cells with a BMS and model-specific mechanical, electrical and communication features.
02 / Voltage and energyVoltage, amp-hours and kilowatt-hours describe different parts of the battery.
Nominal voltage identifies the battery platform. Amp-hours describe electrical capacity at that voltage. Nominal energy is calculated by multiplying nominal voltage by amp-hours and dividing by 1,000: kWh = V × Ah ÷ 1,000.
For example, SAVYEN's published 12.8 V 100 Ah model is rated at 1.28 kWh, the 25.6 V 200 Ah model at 5.12 kWh, and the 51.2 V 314 Ah model at approximately 16.08 kWh. These are nameplate-energy values, not guaranteed delivered energy or runtime.
12.8 V class
Compact 100 Ah, 150 Ah and 200 Ah models provide 1.28-2.56 kWh for 12 V solar, backup and mobile applications.
25.6 V class
The published 60-200 Ah large-case range provides 1.536-5.12 kWh for 24 V-class systems.
51.2 V class
Wall-mounted and floor-standing models cover several residential and larger backup energy classes, including 5.12, 10.24, 16.08, 32.15 and 35.02 kWh.
High-voltage systems
Modular high-voltage architectures combine matched battery modules, controls and compatible power-conversion equipment for larger projects.
03 / Battery managementThe BMS monitors and protects the battery within model-specific limits.
A battery management system monitors operating conditions and applies protection logic for the battery. The exact functions, current limits, alarms, balancing method and communication features depend on the model and BMS configuration.
CAN or RS485 communication may allow a compatible inverter to receive state-of-charge information and coordinated charge or discharge limits. A matching connector is not enough: the inverter protocol, firmware and settings must also support the selected battery.
Protection
Confirm the published charge, discharge, voltage and temperature limits for the exact ordered model.
Communication
Check the supported inverter protocol and cable pinout, not only whether both products mention CAN or RS485.
Expansion
Parallel or series operation requires explicit model support, matched units, correct protection and the manufacturer's commissioning method.
04 / Battery formatsChoose the installation format after defining the electrical requirement.
Portable-case and large-case batteries suit compact or mobile applications. Wall-mounted units conserve floor space in residential installations. Floor-standing batteries provide higher energy in an integrated cabinet. Rack and high-voltage systems are used when a project needs modular expansion and coordinated commercial equipment.
Installation format should follow the load, backup-energy target, inverter platform, available space, access for service, environmental conditions and transport requirements. Appearance alone is not a reliable selection method.
Home and small backup
Start with essential load power, backup hours, installation space and a compatible low-voltage inverter.
Extended runtime
Compare higher-capacity floor-standing models only after verifying continuous discharge current and inverter matching.
Commercial projects
Separate inverter power in kW from battery energy in kWh and obtain a project-specific electrical design.
05 / Sizing methodSize the battery from required load energy, then verify discharge power.
First calculate the energy used by the essential loads: load energy in kWh = load power in kW × operating hours. Convert this into a nominal battery target by allowing for the permitted usable fraction, inverter losses, temperature, ageing and a practical reserve.
Energy capacity does not prove that the battery can run the load. The battery and BMS must also supply the inverter's continuous DC current and short-duration surge demand. The inverter battery-voltage range, charge settings, communication and protective devices must all be checked.
Example
A constant 1 kW load for five hours consumes 5 kWh before conversion losses and reserve. A 5.12 kWh nameplate battery therefore does not guarantee five hours of delivered AC runtime.
Next step
Use the detailed battery sizing guide and send the load list, backup target and inverter model for project confirmation.
06 / B2B buyer checklistA useful quotation starts with the project, not only the requested amp-hours.
Distributors, installers, EPC companies and project buyers should provide enough information for the supplier to check electrical matching and commercial scope. A quotation based only on a battery capacity can miss the actual inverter, load, documentation and delivery requirements.
